The Achilles heel of the Democrats is that segments of the population like younger people who would vote for their candidates do not actually make the effort to get out and vote on Election Day. On the other hand, Republicans tend to be middle-age and older voters who enthusiastically show up to vote. Because of a perfect storm of high gas prices and inflation during the Biden presidency and of ineffective efforts combating them, Dems stand to lose control of the House, and in various key positions election-deniers have a good chance of winning, possibly turning the nation towards one-party rule. With so much at stake, it is certainly odd that many don't make the simple effort to vote.
Personally, there are both Republicans and Democrats I would vote for, and particularly in local elections, individual differences matter. I do that because I don't want to live in a one-party state. If America ever becomes one, we can pretty much kiss our freedom goodbye. That's why I also believe that new, additional, and viable political parties need to be formed, and we need to get away from the current trajectory towards one-party rule fed by political extremism and the two-party system.
If a politician rejects the rules of the game so to speak, and has announced beforehand they are just going to force their way into office as former President Trump did, that individual will never get my vote. As far as I am concerned, they have forfeited their right to run for office. Laws need to be put in place establishing that if a politician refuses to accept election results and legal rulings, they should be taken off the ballot and disqualified from running.
