In light of the attack on Congress by Trump supporters on Jan. 6, security has been dramatically increased for the inauguration of President-Elect Biden. Trump himself has been impeached in the House (now twice) for summoning the violent mob and possibly faces a full impeachment in the Senate. He resisted bringing in military reinforcements for the police several times, which is probably in and of itself impeachable. All state capitols remain on high alert in the coming week. In my opinion, they need to be on high alert for quite some time and the government needs to treat it less as a security effort and more as military action against white supremacists. Plots to overthrow the government and impose a white supremacist regime have been fantasies of militia groups for decades, and they believed they finally had an opening to do so with the election of Donald Trump. They also had the help of a Republican party willing to overlook Trump's corruption for the sake of towing the party line at all costs. It was a Faustian deal with the devil with terrible consequences.
