It is truly tragic to see that Mad Magazine is no longer going to be available at newsstands and will only offer issues with old cartoons and new covers to subscribers until their subscriptions run out. Mad execs claimed that it would only publish new material once a year from now on as well, leaving most people to conclude that the publication has reached the end of the line. It is truly a shame that a pillar of a free society has crumbled due to a growing attitude of hyper-sensitivity and the public's mistaken belief that everything can and should be gotten for free off the internet. I am hopeful someone can salvage Mad, perhaps as a website with advertising and some paid content? That being said I have to admit that as a kid I actually was one of the few who collected Cracked magazine (1958-2006) instead...I guess I just liked Sylvester P. Smythe better.
