Retail giant Toys 'R' Us recently announced it was closing all of its stores. Many believe its demise is the result of changing habits of consumers, who have migrated towards online shopping (primarily Jeff Bezo's Amazon), and towards toy shopping at general merchandise stores like Wal-Mart and Target. There is an old saying, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," and I think that Toys 'R' Us could conceivably have saved itself by devoting more of its focus to selling toys online or even working out an agreement with Amazon. I hope that brick and mortar stores never completely vanish, as it is enjoyable to take a stroll through a store and look at the merchandise on the shelves instead of on a tiny screen, in my opinion.
