This past week, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in a keynote address that appeared to be a combination of an Apple speech and the movie "1984" that his nation has developed nuclear missiles that can outmaneuver America's missile-defense system. This would pretty much level the nuclear playing field since the U.S. had pulled out of the ABM Treaty in 2001 to build anti-missile defense systems in the West, much to the ire of Russia. "Now they will listen to us," Putin said, as if he were holding the world hostage to Russian interests. The response from the White House was deafening, which is quite odd given President Trump's "bigger button" and "fire and fury" comments regarding North Korean nuclear threats. Instead, President Trump was busy getting into a Twitter war with SNL actor Alec Baldwin. I guess someone impersonating him "trumps" a national security crisis.
