The bitter irony is that Hillary Clinton's election as president would be a historic event for women in the United States, and yet female Democrats are not rallying around her as their clear preference. Many prefer the more progressively liberal Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders-especially younger females. Not to deny that some gender inequality continues to exist, but many younger women are not old enough to witness or recall a time when women couldn't work outside the home or had the rights they do today. Thus, the significance of a female president does not resound as strongly with them as with older women. Kudos then to them for not being shallow, and voting on issues or character rather than a nominee's gender.
