Billionaire presidential candidate Donald Trump has come under fire lately for remarks characterizing illegal immigrants as violent criminals, urging for a wall to be built along the southern United States. My feeling is that criminals come from all walks of life, whether they be native-born, legal or illegal immigrant. Yes, there are some dangerous criminals who cross the border, and yes, there should be increased border security; however, it should be noted that the majority of illegal immigrants are fleeing violence and poverty in Mexico to look for a safe haven here in the U.S. I believe that greater efforts to educate and integrate those crossing the border, as well as some tighter border security are what is needed, instead of fear tactics.
