Indiana Democrats are proposing raising the state's minimum wage from $7.25
to $10.10 an hour. The legislation isn't expected to get off the ground on
account of a Republican supermajority and its pro-business sympathies.
Meanwhile, Seattle, Chicago, and other parts of the country have adjusted their
minimum wages with inflation to higher levels - even as high as $15 an hour. Now
I don't believe that the cost of living in Seattle is twice as that of Indiana,
but I do think that inflation and cost of living has increased since 2009, when
there was just a paltry increase nationwide. $10.10 an hour is reasonable for
our state, and although businesses may have to raise prices a wee bit, they do
it anyway...and maybe they can invest it in their employees for a change.
