A Senate report on the CIA's use of torture to interrogate suspected
terrorists (I would emphasize "suspected") has cast a light on the dark tactics
used at these so-called "black sites" in countries like Thailand, Morocco, and
Cuba, where torture is completely kosher by our own government. Sen. John McCain
has been a vocal critic of the deplorable use of waterboarding, sleep
deprivation, and other methods of torture, as has been President Obama (though
how much has gone on under his watch is questionable as well). My opinion is
that torture doesn't yield good information and it sets a dangerous precedent in
terms of what we as Americans deem legally and morally acceptable.
