The ITR Concession Company, a private firm which
has been operating the Toll Road for the state
of Indiana for the past several years, is deep
in debt and will have to sell the toll road to a
new buyer. The 2006 toll road sale, which
essentially privatized its operations, was the
cause of much controversy back in the day. While
tempted to say, "I told you so," apparently what
we did not foresee was the company neglecting to
price tolls in a way that would actually allow
them to profit.
Here are a couple of my cartoons from back in
the day on the subject - one with then-Governor
Mitch Daniels
dreaming, and another involving a
prospective logo for the new, privatized
road.
