Phil Robertson, one of the stars of A&E's hit
series, "Duck Dynasty" recently stepped into
controversy when he made comparisons of
homosexuality to bestiality in a GQ interview
some believe was meant to bait him or possibly
be a publicity stunt. After pulling him from the
show, A&E reinstated him after a public
backlash.
Meanwhile, here in Indiana, GOP legislators are
considering a constitutional amendment to ban
gay marriage in response to its legalization
across the nation.
Personally, gay marriage doesn't bother me-the biggest threat to families is the high divorce rate. Now that the majority of Americans are more open to the idea of legalizing it, my main concern is that individuals and organizations like churches are free to voice disapproval of gay marriage and be able to refuse to perform ceremonies without being charged with discrimination by the government. This is an issue where both sides need to make concessions if they want their own side to be tolerated. It can't be a situation of "winner-take-all" in a free society.
