China has imposed a controversial no-fly zone over a disputed region in the East China Sea, portions of which South Korea, Japan and Taiwan also lay claim to. This "Aerial Defense Identification Zone" (ADIZ) prompted the United States and Japan to send reconnaissance flights to the area to investigate what seems to be a shady situation. In response, the Chinese deployed fighter jets to monitor the US and Japanese.
These bold and evasive actions taken by China serve as a reminder that we should not recklessly cut defense spending, as our military is facing massive restructuring in the coming years...and by "restructuring" is meant tremendous cost-cutting. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has voiced concern that this will jeopardize national security, and I don't doubt it.
