The realignment and upgrading of the South Shore Line on the north end of Michigan City is currently being debated, in hopes of finding the least disruptive and most appealing option for the rail tracks. Many local residents feel the plans are in one way or another, too intrusive and not worth the hassle.
Elsewhere, the south side of town is booming with big box retailers and still growing, largely thanks to its proximity to I-94. If one thought the South Shore realignment would be a headache for the sake of commerce, it would be nothing compared to this purely imaginary rerouting of I-94, of which no such plans are on the table - or probably ever will be.
