The United Nations and the West
(including the United States) have, in my
opinion, been hoping in vain for the bloody
Syrian civil war to be won by the rebels without
their military aid. As a result, the tide is
turning in favor of the regime of President
Bashar al-Assad, who has been committing war
crimes and atrocities against his citizens since
2011.
I don't see the difference between militarily
supporting rebels in Libya to overthrow dictator
Muammar Gadaffi and this situation. I figure
there is some alterior motive for the West
looking the other way, as it were, in terms of
getting seriously involved. Sanctions seldom, if
ever work, in situations like these: look at
Iran and North Korea.
