Precisely how to establish a health exchange
for the state of Indiana has been passed around
like a hot potato. "The Affordable Care Act", or "Obamacare"
is unpopular with the majority of Hoosiers.
Governor Daniels has stated that he will respect
the wishes of the next governor (either Democrat
John Gregg or Republican Mike Pence) on how to
establish the exchange and health benefits as
required by law. Gregg prefers a "hybrid" system
involving a degree of power-sharing between
the federal and state levels. Pence, on the
other hand, prefers the details be left to the
federal government, and hopes the law is
overturned.
My primary concern is that the program lives up
to its name and is, in all truth, "affordable."
