At the time this cartoon was published, a caucus of Indiana Democrats unsuccessfully
attempted to oust B. Patrick Bauer as the
minority leader in the House of Representatives.
A week or two later, he was in fact replaced by state rep. Linda Lawson of
Hammond. Many in the party were wanting new
leadership after years of political losses which
altered the state's political landscape.
Particularly now that the Dems have lost many
seats and lack the leverage they once enjoyed,
Bauer's theatrics and unorthodox tactics were
increasingly perceived as ineffective.
It is ironic that Bauer left the political
stage at the same time as his arch-enemy, Mitch
Daniels, who is now president of
Purdue University.
