To the religious right I say, "Thou protesteth too much" - often the biggest homophobes are deeply in the closet themselves. Just look at Ted Haggard or former senator Craig. Now that doesn't mean churches don't have the right to refuse to perform gay ceremonies - they should be able to define marriage as they interpret God's will; but from the government's perspective, gays should have certain legal rights like hospital visits, inheritance, etc.
